Ferndale Native Lt. Col. Dane Coppini to Fly Over Chiefs-Colts Game

URGENT UPDATE: Air Force Lt. Col. Dane Coppini has been selected for a prestigious flyover at the Kansas City Chiefs versus Indianapolis Colts NFL game this Sunday at 10 a.m. in Kansas City. This event marks a special tribute during Military Appreciation Month and features four jets from the 87th Flying Training Squadron, known as the “Red Bulls.”

Coppini, who hails from Ferndale, California, brings over 15 years of flying experience to this honor. Currently stationed at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, Texas, he typically trains future pilots on the T-38C Talon, the U.S. Air Force’s primary training jet. “This is a significant moment for me and my squadron,” Coppini stated. “We aim for a few flyovers each year, and I’m thrilled to finally participate.”

Coppini’s journey to this moment began 19 years ago when he enlisted and served as an Air Force cop. His passion for flying ignited after his first deployment to Afghanistan, leading him to apply for Officers’ Training School and ultimately become a pilot. He has completed ten deployments, including missions in Iraq and various locations in Africa.

Reflecting on his roots, Coppini expressed gratitude for the support from his hometown. “Growing up in a small town like Ferndale, I didn’t realize how special that community was until I left,” he noted. His mother, Carrie Coppini, shared her pride, saying, “We’re super proud of him, and he’s a high flier! The family is really excited about the flyover.”

As the game approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a memorable tribute. With the flyover scheduled just hours before kickoff, fans and supporters are eager to witness this display of honor and skill. Coppini plans to retire in Springfield, Missouri, after his military career, but for now, he is focused on this significant milestone.

This flyover not only celebrates military service but also highlights the personal journey of a local hero making a mark on the national stage. Stay tuned for updates as the weekend unfolds.
