UPDATE: The Wintrust Magnificent Mile Lights Festival has officially kicked off its 34th year, transforming North Michigan Avenue into a dazzling holiday spectacle. This much-anticipated event, happening the weekend before Thanksgiving, promises to attract up to one million attendees as it marks the official start of the holiday season in Chicago.
Just announced, the festivities feature beloved characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse from Walt Disney World Resort, who will illuminate the avenue with one million lights strung across over 200 trees. The grand parade takes place on Sunday, November 23, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM, proceeding south on North Michigan Avenue from Oak Street to Wacker Drive.
Before the parade, Chicago’s own Plain White T’s will perform a free concert starting at 1 PM, setting the energetic tone for the day’s events. Notable performances will also include DJ White Shadow, a GRAMMY-winning producer and Chicago native, debuting a Chicago-themed float, alongside Club Nouveau, who will perform their iconic hit “Lean on Me.”
Organizers emphasize that this year’s parade is not just the largest evening parade in the U.S. but also the third-largest parade nationwide. Attendees are encouraged to wear holiday sweaters in a bid to break the record for the most worn at a parade, adding a festive spirit to the gathering.
The festival’s activities will continue with the Lights Festival Lane open from 11 AM to 4 PM at Pioneer Court, 401 N. Michigan Ave., leading up to the parade. A spectacular fireworks display will cap off the celebrations along North Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River, making this an unforgettable start to the holiday season.
