Architect Andre Lee Ballard Passes Away at 63 After Illness

Andre Lee Ballard, a prominent architect known for his significant contributions to major building projects worldwide, passed away at his home in London on October 27, 2025. He bravely faced pancreatic cancer for over a year before his death. Born on October 31, 1961, in Montreal, Ballard spent his formative years in Suffolk, Virginia, where he developed a passion for architecture.

He studied Architecture at the University of Virginia, where he met his future wife, Mary Ellen Vance. The couple shared a sense of adventure that led them to live in various cities, including Norfolk, London, and Hong Kong. It was in Hong Kong that they began their family and formed lasting friendships that would enrich their lives.

Ballard was celebrated not only for his professional achievements but also for his engaging personality. He was known for his irreverent wit, keen intelligence, and easygoing demeanor. Throughout his career, he contributed to several major construction projects across Asia and the Middle East, including notable work on Zaha Hadid’s iconic City of Dreams in Macau. His architectural legacy reflects his innovative spirit and dedication to the field.

Additionally, a memorial gathering will take place at the family’s U.S. home in Nags Head, North Carolina, on December 6, starting at 18:00.
