URGENT UPDATE: Significant traffic disruptions are set to hit Kapa‘a as road closures commence from December 15 to December 17. Residents should prepare for delays during the daytime hours of 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. due to essential geotechnical work impacting daily commutes.
According to a press release from Kauai County, the Department of Public Works and Hirata and Associates Inc. will conduct subsurface exploration to facilitate upcoming traffic signal improvements and the installation of a new utility pole. These critical tasks will directly affect traffic flow in the area, with specific closures detailed below.
On December 15, a single-lane closure will occur on Kukui Street, particularly affecting the left turn lane just west of the Kūhiō Highway intersection. The following day, December 16, the east side of Kukui Street at the same junction will experience a total closure. Finally, on December 17, the south end of Niu Street, also adjacent to Kūhiō Highway, will close, bringing a sequence of disruptions to a close.
While these changes promise to cause temporary inconveniences, officials assure that access to properties along the affected routes will remain open for residents and business owners. Municipal authorities are urging the public to heed all posted signage and follow instructions from flaggers while navigating through or around the work zones.
“Access to properties will be provided. Please observe and obey all traffic controls, posted signs, and flaggers,” stated the county’s official website.
Residents and commuters are strongly advised to factor in additional travel time, anticipate detours, and expect potential delays due to these lane and road closures. As preparations for these vital upgrades unfold, the community is encouraged to stay informed and plan accordingly to minimize disruptions to their daily routines.
