The Colfax-Mingo girls basketball team started the season on a high note, defeating Southeast Warren 37-30 in a tightly contested game on March 15, 2024. The Tigerhawks rallied from a halftime deficit, showcasing resilience after struggling in close games last season.
The game took place in Liberty Center, where the Tigerhawks faced an early challenge. Southeast Warren initially took control, leading 10-5 at the end of the first quarter and maintaining a seven-point advantage at halftime. Despite shooting only 28.8 percent from the field, Colfax-Mingo dominated the third quarter, outscoring the Warhawks 18-2.
Blain Houseman emerged as a key player for the Tigerhawks, contributing nine points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Meanwhile, teammate Isabelle Foglesong was instrumental with ten points, three rebounds, and two assists. Other notable performances included Lydia Hansen, who added nine points and five rebounds, and Mallory Sipma, who contributed six points and six rebounds.
The statistics reveal a challenging night for Southeast Warren, which struggled with shooting. The Warhawks went 0-of-10 from three-point range and missed seven free throws, finishing the game with a shooting percentage of 36 percent. Madison Olsasky led Southeast Warren with nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while Jessica Lillig added ten points and four boards.
Colfax-Mingo’s defensive effort was evident, as the team recorded 12 steals and forced 25 turnovers from Southeast Warren. The Tigerhawks were 4-of-18 from beyond the arc and 3-of-6 from the free-throw line. This victory not only marks a positive start to the season for Colfax-Mingo but also serves as a significant improvement over last year’s close loss to the same opponent by three points.
As the Tigerhawks look to build on this momentum, they will aim to enhance their shooting efficiency while maintaining their aggressive defensive play. The team will seek to convert this early success into a winning streak as the season progresses.
