Logan Heights Nonprofit Launches Holiday Toy Drive for Local Kids

The Logan Heights Community Development Corporation is spearheading a holiday toy drive aimed at supporting local children in need this festive season. The initiative, known as Toys for Kids, seeks to collect new, unwrapped toys to benefit approximately 200 families and around 570 children, ranging in age from infancy to 17 years.

Last year, the nonprofit overcame a significant shortfall in toy donations, successfully aiding nearly 1,000 families due to overwhelming community support. This year, however, donations have declined, prompting the organization to limit registration to 200 families. Remarkably, these spots were filled within just 12 hours of opening.

To contribute, community members can drop off toys at the Logan Heights CDC, located at 3040 Imperial Ave, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, until December 4. Additionally, donations can be made online through a dedicated link at onecau.se/_e8bdm1. The organization emphasizes that toys for children aged 6-17 are particularly needed this year.

Holiday Celebration and Toy Distribution

The toy distribution for registered families will take place during the nonprofit’s annual community celebration, Light Up Logan, scheduled for 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on December 5 at The Soap Factory, located at 2995 Commercial St. This festive event will not only facilitate the distribution of toys but will also feature a variety of holiday activities, local shopping opportunities, and the annual tree lighting ceremony.

Attendees can look forward to a holiday market showcasing local vendors, engaging kids’ crafts, real snow, visits with Santa, and live music performances.
