Turning Point USA has announced its intention to support Vice President JD Vance in a potential presidential campaign for the 2028 election. This development was revealed by Erika Kirk, who succeeded her late husband, Charlie Kirk, as CEO of the organization following his tragic assassination on September 10, 2023, during an event at Utah Valley University.
On a recent appearance on the Megyn Kelly Show, Erika Kirk expressed that plans are “in the works” to back Vance should he decide to run for the presidency. She highlighted her husband’s commitment to supporting Vance, stating, “One of my last conversations with Charlie was about how intentional he was about supporting JD for ’28,” as reported by The Hill.
While discussions about the future are underway, Kirk emphasized the importance of focusing on the upcoming midterm elections before making any plans for 2028. “Let’s start with the midterms before we start jumping to ’28,” she stated. “And let’s enjoy the fact that we do have Donald Trump in office, and we worked really hard to make that happen, my husband did.”
Support for Vance’s potential candidacy has also been voiced by other prominent political figures. Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State, remarked on Vance’s suitability as a presidential candidate during an interview with Lara Trump, saying, “I think JD Vance would be a great nominee… if he decides he wants to do that.” He further praised Vance’s performance as vice president, noting their friendship and expressing hope that Vance would consider running.
Former President Trump has also weighed in on the matter, suggesting that a ticket featuring Vance and Rubio would be “unstoppable” in the 2028 election. “We have JD,” Trump stated, adding, “Marco is great.”
Despite the growing support and speculation surrounding his political future, Vance has reiterated the necessity of concentrating on the immediate task at hand: the 2026 midterm elections. In a recent discussion with Sean Hannity on Fox News, Vance remarked, “We’re going to win the midterms, we’re going to do everything that we can to win the midterms, and then after that, I’m going to sit down with the president of the United States and talk to him about it.”
Vance recognizes the importance of his current role, stating, “The American people elected me to do a job right now, and my job is to do it.” His commitment to fulfilling his duties as vice president underscores his focus on immediate responsibilities while entertaining the prospect of a future presidential run.
As the political landscape evolves, Turning Point USA’s support for JD Vance sets the stage for potential shifts in the upcoming elections, particularly with the midterms drawing near and the 2028 presidential race on the horizon.
