Mississippi Highway Patrol Prepares for New Year’s Travel Surge

The Mississippi Highway Patrol (MHP) is gearing up for the New Year Holiday Travel Period, which will commence on December 31, 2025, at 06:00 and conclude on January 1, 2026, at midnight. MHP plans to enhance its patrol activities to ensure a safe driving experience for all travelers in the state.

In an effort to maintain road safety, MHP will increase the presence of Troopers across both state and federal roadways. This initiative is aimed at monitoring speed, ensuring seat belt compliance, and removing impaired drivers from the roads.

Commissioner Sean Tindell emphasized the importance of safety during this busy travel time. “The Christmas travel period has just ended, and now we’re preparing for the New Year’s Eve travel period. Our goal remains the same: to keep Mississippi and our roadways safe! Please drive safe and have a plan for all your New Year’s celebrations,” he stated.

During the previous New Year Holiday Travel Period, MHP responded to a total of 68 crashes, which tragically included one fatality. Moreover, Troopers made 27 DUI arrests as part of their commitment to reducing impaired driving incidents.

As travelers prepare for their celebrations, MHP urges everyone to prioritize safety and plan ahead. Increased patrols and traffic enforcement will be in effect, and motorists should remain vigilant as they navigate the roadways during this festive season.
