Akiva Schaffer Discusses Future of The Naked Gun Franchise

The future of the Naked Gun franchise remains uncertain, as director Akiva Schaffer confirmed that a sequel to the recently released reboot is not currently planned. In a conversation with CBR at the Critics’ Choice Awards, Schaffer elaborated on the status of the comedy series, which features Liam Neeson in the lead role.

During the interview, Schaffer explained, “We are not planning another,” attributing the decision to recent changes in ownership at Paramount. He noted that this update came shortly after the film’s release, stating, “It was about seven days after the movie came out, and so, you know, we’re waiting to hear from see if they would want it.”

Despite the lack of immediate plans for a sequel, Schaffer mentioned that the creative team is not without ideas. He revealed that co-writers Dan Gregor and Doug Mand have developed a list of potential gags for future installments. Producer Erica Huggins also highlighted that they have “a big idea that we had talked about,” further confirming Schaffer’s assertion that they have “a few” concepts in mind.
