The reunion of former reality television stars Hong Jong Hyun and Yura from the show “We Got Married” has captivated fans as they shared their first impressions of each other after more than a decade. The pair, who appeared on the popular MBC reality variety show from 2008 to 2017, reconnected in a video released on January 8, 2023, on Yura’s YouTube channel, yurayurahae.
In the over 20-minute video, the couple reminisced about their time on the show, where they portrayed a married couple in a series of staged scenarios, including trips and games. This video marks their first official reunion since their appearances on the series, which spanned episodes 223 to 262.
Reflecting on their initial impressions, Yura revealed that she found Hong Jong Hyun to be somewhat intimidating. “I thought he might be kinda mean,” she said. “Jong Hyun looked cold back then. Oppa was walking around MBC Music Core, doing this concept, like, ‘I’m looking for my wife.’” She further elaborated on how, upon getting to know him better, she discovered a softer side beneath his seemingly aloof exterior.
“He’s a model. Total ‘cold city guy,’” Yura explained. “With that ‘hard to approach’ image, it felt like there was this wall I couldn’t break through. But the more I got to know you, I was like, ‘Wow, you’re actually super soft inside and you take such good care of people. I really felt that while we were filming.’”
Jong Hyun shared his thoughts on their first meeting, recalling his surprise when he entered the waiting room of Girl’s Day. “I walked into the Girl’s Day waiting room, and I was like, ‘Who is it?’ But I knew right away,” he said, mentioning how Yura was initially hiding behind her bandmate, Sojin. He described Yura’s first impression as shy, with a “soft, girly vibe.”
As their conversation continued, Jong Hyun noted the differences in their personalities, stating, “You were the opposite of me: bright, talkative, and I was glad we were different.” Yura agreed, suggesting that the producers may have intentionally paired them to create a dynamic contrast. “The PD probably thought, ‘If it’s her, maybe she can break through his wall,’” she said, reflecting on their initial matchmaking.
The video serves not only as a nostalgic trip for fans of “We Got Married” but also highlights the personal growth and changes both actors have experienced since their time on the show.
