Jenny McCarthy recently opened up about the challenges of sharing a bed with her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, particularly when it comes to his snoring. During an appearance on “Live” with Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, McCarthy humorously described her husband’s nocturnal noise as a “challenge,” despite her strong affection for him.
The couple, who married in August 2014, have made their relationship work through both ups and downs. McCarthy affectionately referred to Wahlberg as “the nicest human being you’ll ever meet,” revealing that he treats her remarkably well. “He loves me and is absolutely what you would call textbook truly perfect. Perfect,” she stated, drawing applause from the audience.
Innovative Sleep Solutions
As McCarthy navigates the effects of perimenopause, she has found herself losing sleep, which has compounded the challenges presented by Wahlberg’s snoring. To combat this, she has adopted a few creative solutions. McCarthy now sleeps with a pair of large noise-canceling headphones while also utilizing a stack of pillows, which Wahlberg affectionately calls the “Great Wall of China.”
“I built in these insulations that I think really helped me get through the night,” she explained. “I sleep with these giant headphones every night… and then I built a Great Wall of China.” The actress noted that her bedroom now feels soundproof, allowing her to enjoy some peace while listening to ocean waves through her headphones.
McCarthy humorously demonstrated how she deals with Wahlberg’s snoring, explaining that she gives him a “love tap” to encourage him to turn over if his snoring becomes particularly loud. She mentioned that Ripa also has her own method of coping, which involves slapping the bed when her husband snores.
Balancing Family Life and Relationships
The couple has also made accommodations for their five shih tzus, who sleep alongside them each night. McCarthy expressed her concern about waking the dogs during the night, adding another layer of complexity to their sleeping arrangements.
In a previous discussion with Fox News Digital, Wahlberg emphasized the importance of nurturing their relationship. Having both experienced divorce before, he noted the couple’s commitment to engaging in therapy—both individually and together—to strengthen their bond. “We decided, let’s do some together, sort of preemptive, because no matter what, every new relationship brings on new challenges,” he explained.
Wahlberg highlighted the need to prioritize their relationship, stating, “That means doing work to protect and fortify the relationship.” He also mentioned that faith plays a crucial role in their marriage, serving as a foundation for their partnership.
As their relationship continues to thrive, Wahlberg shared that the couple rarely sleeps apart, even when they are working in different locations. “I go to New York to film ‘Blue Bloods,’ she goes to LA to film ‘The Masked Singer,’ but we now have the luxury of being able to sleep together when we’re apart,” he told Drew Barrymore in 2024.
Wahlberg further explained that the partner who goes to bed first will call the other on FaceTime, keeping the connection alive throughout the night. “We love to do this,” he added, emphasizing that their bedtime routine is not born from insecurity but rather a testament to their close relationship.
McCarthy and Wahlberg’s candid discussions about their marriage reveal a relatable and engaging dynamic, showcasing how they navigate the complexities of love and family life while maintaining a sense of humor along the way.
