Kick Off the Holiday Season at KUT/KUTX Tree Lighting Event

The annual Holiday Sing-Along, Tree Lighting, and Downtown Stroll will take place on December 6, 2025, from 17:00 to 20:00 at the Texas State Capitol. Organized by KUT News, KUTX 98.9, and the Downtown Austin Alliance, this free, family-friendly event marks the beginning of the holiday season in Austin.

Attendees will be invited to join in singing traditional holiday songs, a cherished practice initiated by John Aielli in the 1980s. Musicians and personalities from KUT News and KUTX Music will lead the festivities, creating a joyful atmosphere as the community comes together. Each participant will receive a complimentary keepsake songbook to aid in singing along.

Tree Lighting Ceremony and Festive Activities

Following the sing-along, the crowd will count down to the lighting of a stunning 45-foot tree located at the intersection of 11th Street and Congress Avenue, on the southern edge of the Capitol grounds. This annual highlight serves as a visual centerpiece for the holiday celebration, drawing families and visitors from across the region.

The event also offers a variety of activities for attendees of all ages, including holiday-themed decorations, refreshments, and opportunities to connect with friends and neighbors. This festive gathering not only celebrates the season but also strengthens community bonds.

As the daylight fades, the bright lights of the tree will illuminate the Capitol grounds, enhancing the festive spirit of downtown Austin. The Holiday Sing-Along and Tree Lighting event exemplifies the city’s commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for everyone, making it a highly anticipated occasion on the local calendar.

Join your friends and family to celebrate the joy of the holiday season in a vibrant atmosphere filled with music, lights, and community spirit. For more information on this event, visit the official KUT website.
