San Antonio Philharmonic Confirms Christmas Performances at Scottish Rite

The San Antonio Philharmonic will continue its scheduled Christmas performances at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, despite earlier concerns about potential eviction. According to Executive Director Roberto Treviño, the organization has not been evicted and plans to proceed with concerts on December 12 and 13, 2023.

Reports emerged last month indicating that the Philharmonic received an eviction notice, stating they would need to vacate the venue by November 26, 2023. The notice raised questions about the future of the Philharmonic’s relationship with the Scottish Rite, a historic downtown venue that has been pivotal to the orchestra’s strategy for long-term growth and stability.

While the eviction notice suggested that the Philharmonic would lose access to the Scottish Rite, Treviño clarified that the organization could still rent the auditorium for rehearsals and performances already scheduled. He emphasized the ongoing negotiations between the Philharmonic and the Scottish Rite to secure a more permanent arrangement.

“We love playing at the Scottish Rite and currently we are continuing our negotiations for an incredible partnership that brings classical music in its highest form to San Antonio,” Treviño stated. He expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming performances, describing the “Classics 4” concert as set for both nights in December.

Tickets for the performances can be purchased through the San Antonio Philharmonic’s website. The Philharmonic’s commitment to its audience remains strong, and Treviño encourages community support as the organization navigates this transitional period.

As the situation continues to unfold, the Philharmonic remains dedicated to bringing high-quality classical music to its audiences, reinforcing the importance of the Scottish Rite as a cultural landmark in San Antonio.
