Kathleen Grace Bergquist, a beloved member of the Naperville community, passed away on January 4, 2026, at the age of 43. Born on January 27, 1982, in Waukegan, Illinois, Kathleen faced significant health challenges from an early age, including Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Despite these obstacles, she grew into a vibrant individual known for her deep love of family and passion for animals.
Kathleen was welcomed into the Bergquist family through adoption, a decision made by her birth mother, who demonstrated remarkable strength and courage. The Bergquist family embraced Kathleen with love and joy, which profoundly influenced her life. Her parents, Richard and Susan Bergquist, along with her siblings, will deeply miss her presence.
Education and Passion for Animals
Kathleen attended Concord School in Westmont and Calvary Christian School in Naperville. Throughout her life, she showed a remarkable dedication to animals, particularly horses. As an experienced horseback rider, Kathleen volunteered at Friends for Therapeutic Equine Activities, where she contributed by feeding and caring for the horses. Additionally, she worked for veterinarian Dr. Eganhouse, further demonstrating her commitment to animal welfare.
Her love for animals extended beyond horses; Kathleen raised several birds that often perched on her shoulder, filling her home with their joyful songs. She also trained her dog for licensed therapy visitations, bringing comfort and companionship to those in need.
A Life of Achievement and Care
Kathleen’s accomplishments were not limited to her affinity for animals. She was an accomplished swimmer who competed in the Special Olympics, showcasing her determination and competitive spirit. Known for her caring nature, she often took on the role of caregiver for her younger siblings, providing support and love to her family.
She is survived by her parents, Richard and Susan, as well as her siblings David (Missy), Steven (Nicole), Jeffrey (Mary), Debbie (Bruce), Mary, Michael David, Faith, and Crista Rose. Kathleen is also remembered by her dear best friend, John Malone, and many nieces and nephews who cherished her.
A visitation for Kathleen will be held at the Beidelman-Kunsch Funeral Homes & Crematory located at 516 S. Washington St. on January 10, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 13:00 p.m. Following the service, interment will take place at Naperville Cemetery.
