The Ragon Institute of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is inviting applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. This opportunity, which aligns with the candidate’s experience and qualifications, aims to enhance research in computational immunology.
The Ragon Institute, established in February 2009, is a collaborative venture between MGH, MIT, and Harvard. It operates in a state-of-the-art facility located in Kendall Square, a hub for innovation and scientific research. The aim of the Institute is to leverage the immune system to combat and prevent human diseases, particularly focusing on infectious diseases, autoimmunity, and cancer immunology.
The successful applicant will hold a primary appointment in the Department of Immunology at Harvard Medical School. Candidates should have expertise in computational immunology, artificial intelligence, or machine learning, all within the context of immunology. A Ph.D. and/or M.D. or equivalent degree in Biology, Computer Science, or Engineering is required by the start of employment.
The responsibilities of the faculty member will include teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, conducting research, and supervising student research projects. The candidate is expected to develop an independent research program that aligns with the Institute’s mission, which emphasizes the application of fundamental immunological knowledge to real-world health challenges.
The Ragon Institute offers a competitive start-up package, which includes access to advanced laboratory facilities such as flow cytometry, microscopy, and a biocontainment level 3 (BSL-3) facility. Furthermore, the Institute provides an extensive repository of clinical specimens to support research initiatives.
Candidates must demonstrate a record of exceptional achievement in basic or translational research, along with the potential to establish an internationally recognized research program. Collaboration with other scientists and mentorship of doctoral students from Harvard’s graduate programs will also be key aspects of the role.
Applications should be submitted via email, with the subject line “Ragon/HMS Computational Immunologist Application.” Required documents include a curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, a strategic research statement, and a teaching philosophy. Additionally, candidates must provide a statement addressing diversity, inclusion, and belonging, detailing their contributions and future plans in these areas.
The Ragon Institute is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability status, gender identity, sexual orientation, and any other characteristic protected by law.
As the search for this pivotal role continues, the Ragon Institute looks forward to welcoming an innovative scientist who can contribute to its mission of advancing immunological research.
