Rebecca Gayheart recently shared her experience undergoing a lower mini facelift, revealing how the procedure has impacted her confidence. During an appearance on the November 17, 2025 episode of the “Broad Ideas” podcast hosted by Rachel Bilson and Olivia Allen, the actress candidly discussed her decision to seek cosmetic surgery with renowned facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Jason Diamond, in Beverly Hills.
Gayheart, who is 54 years old, expressed her belief in the importance of openness regarding cosmetic procedures. “I’m very open about it because I feel that we have to be… it’s like, why are we trying to pretend like we aren’t aging?” she stated. The actress emphasized that she hopes to normalize discussions surrounding plastic surgery, particularly as societal pressures around aging continue to evolve.
Reflecting on her personal journey, Gayheart admitted that the past few years have been challenging. She noted that she began to notice significant changes in her appearance, particularly after turning 52. “I was like, ‘Wow, this is bad,’” she recalled. One issue that troubled her was the uneven appearance of her eyes, which she described as one looking open while the other appeared closed. This prompted her to consult with Diamond, who suggested various procedures to address her concerns.
Gayheart underwent the facelift in July 2025, describing the recovery process as intense, especially since it was her first surgery. “I’d never had any surgery, so it was a little intense just because I’d never done any surgery of any kind,” she explained. Nevertheless, she praised Dr. Diamond’s approach, highlighting his commitment to ensuring patients look like themselves, just enhanced. “He has a very soft touch,” Gayheart added.
The actress faced one particular challenge during her recovery: discussing her surgery with her daughters. Gayheart acknowledged the difficulty in explaining the decision to her children, noting, “The tricky part was my daughters.” She aimed to be transparent while reassuring them about the safety of the procedure. “I was like, ‘Listen, this is possibly going to make me feel better about myself. And I think that’s okay,’” she explained.
In addition to discussing her cosmetic surgery, Gayheart also reflected on more personal matters during the podcast. Her ex-husband, Eric Dane, recently announced his diagnosis of ALS, which he made public in April 2025. This revelation came shortly after Gayheart withdrew a divorce petition she had filed in 2018. The couple has been separated for eight years, and their daughters live with Gayheart full time.
Despite the challenges, Gayheart emphasized the importance of supporting family members through difficult times. “We show up for people no matter what,” she said. “He is our family. He is your father.” She expressed her commitment to teaching her daughters how to navigate complex situations with grace and dignity.
As Gayheart continues to embrace her journey, she remains focused on personal growth and setting a positive example for her children. She aims to maintain an optimistic outlook, learning from the challenges that life presents. Through her openness about cosmetic surgery and family matters, Gayheart hopes to inspire others to approach similar situations with honesty and courage.
