Remembering Steven Andrew Kovacs: A Life Celebrated Through Music

Steven Andrew Kovacs, aged 73, passed away peacefully on December 11, 2025, after a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Surrounded by loved ones in his final moments, Kovacs leaves behind a legacy marked by a successful career and a profound love for music.

Born into a family that nurtured his talents, Steve’s passion for music began at home and blossomed during his time in the White Bear Lake High School choir. His musical journey continued as he engaged in liturgical music and formed several bands, including The Four Coachmen, 1st Things 1st, and JS Trio. These endeavors highlighted not only his musical skills but also his ability to connect with others through his art.

In addition to his musical pursuits, Kovacs had a notable career in sales and teaching at Dakota Tech. His dedication to education and mentorship impacted many students and colleagues throughout his professional life. Outside of work, he found joy in woodworking, sports—particularly golf—and cherished moments spent with his wife, Deb, at their lake home.

Kovacs is survived by his wife, Deb; sons, Andrew and Patrick (who is married to Megan); grandchildren, Casey and Dylan; as well as his siblings, Gail Ward, Sue Pearson, Jody Jarvis, and John Kovacs. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Kovacs.

A heartfelt acknowledgment goes to Jody Jarvis, who played a vital role in providing loving assistance to Deb during Steve’s home hospice care until his passing. Such support exemplifies the strong family ties that surrounded Kovacs throughout his life.
