A total of 1,435 couples simultaneously kissed for five seconds beneath a stunning 10-foot mistletoe installation, establishing a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDSTM for the most couples kissing under mistletoe at a single venue. This remarkable event took place on December 13, 2023, organized by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District at Anthem Row.
The previous record, held by Anheuser-Busch, was set in 2019 in St. Louis, Missouri, with just 480 couples participating. Representatives from GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS were present to certify this new achievement, further highlighting the community spirit of the event.
Community Celebration and Festive Atmosphere
The record-breaking kiss occurred at 16:15 and was part of a larger celebration that included live music from the Ellington Carthan Quartet, featuring vocalist Valentina Maria. Attendees enjoyed a variety of activities, including photobooths and food and drink from local vendors such as City Tap House and Root & Vine. The event was hosted by Sherrell Duncan from WPGC 95.5 and Rod Hendrix from 94.7 The Drive.

A Unique Installation Enhancing the Experience
The National Mistletoe, designed by multi-disciplinarian artist My Ly Design, is a first-of-its-kind aerial art installation. Suspended 30 feet in the air, it features a beautiful arrangement of greenery, blooms, ribbons, and a jingle bell, transforming the downtown corridor into a festive haven for romance and community connection.
This marks the second year that the National Mistletoe has been featured at Anthem Row, enhancing the holiday spirit and creating unforgettable moments for couples and families alike. The event not only set a record but also fostered a sense of togetherness among participants, showcasing the unique charm of DowntownDC during the festive season.
