On December 9, 2025, the 35th annual Planned Parenthood Awards took place at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas, Texas. The event drew a full house, highlighting its significance within the community. Co-chairs Pam and John Beckert welcomed attendees, marking a milestone for Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas.
Among the highlights was a live conversation with activist and author Barbara Bush, moderated by five-time Emmy Award-winning journalist Tashara Parker. Bush, who currently serves as the NBA’s Head of Social Responsibility, engaged the audience with a blend of humor and sincerity. She shared anecdotes about her family, reflecting on both lighthearted moments and deeply personal memories, particularly of her grandmother, whom she described as a steadfast figure dedicated to family and advocacy.
The ceremony also recognized significant contributions to social justice and community support. The Gertrude Shelburne Humanitarian Award was awarded to Froswa’ Booker-Drew, Ph.D., who emphasized her ongoing efforts to uplift women and communities of color. In her acceptance speech, she discussed a new initiative developed in partnership with Planned Parenthood, aimed at aiding women navigating perimenopause and menopause. This initiative aligns with her broader advocacy and philanthropic work across North Texas.
Recognition was also given to media efforts that shed light on critical issues. The Katherine Ripley Print Media Award was bestowed upon The Dallas Morning News for its investigative series titled “The Standard of Fear.” This series explored the tangible effects of restrictive reproductive care in Texas through compelling first-person narratives.
Following the awards ceremony, attendees had the opportunity to continue their support by dining at various local restaurants. Participating establishments, including Le Bilboquet, Nonna, Teak Tearoom, Mirador, and Lovers Seafood and Market, donated a portion of their proceeds to Planned Parenthood of Greater Texas, extending the event’s impact beyond the Arts District.
The event brought together numerous influential figures, including Thana Hickman, Missy Falchi, Ken Lambrecht, Abigail Sinwell, and others, all united in support of reproductive health and rights. The gathering underscored the ongoing commitment to advocacy and community involvement, reinforcing the vital role that organizations like Planned Parenthood play in the lives of many.
