Beloved Matriarch Mary Margaret Putanko Passes Away at 87

Mary Margaret “Peggy” Putanko, aged 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Simpsonville, South Carolina, on October 8, 2025. Originally from Uniontown, Peggy was a cherished figure in her community, known for her warmth and devotion to family.

Born on June 1, 1938, in Edenborn, Peggy was the daughter of the late Stephen and Margaret Havrilla Plisko. She lived a life dedicated to her family, especially her husband, Joseph Putanko, whom she married and lovingly supported for 56 years until his passing in June 2017.

In addition to her husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her brother, Edward Plisko, and her beloved dog, Daisy. She leaves behind a loving family that includes her daughter, Jodie Putanko Cales, and son-in-law, Kevin Cales. Her granddaughter, Madison Cales, also survives her, as well as her siblings: Elaine Chury (the late Richard), Lanny Plisko (Elaine), Marlene Guappone, Judi Kolencik (Edward), and Kenny Plisko (Jani), along with her sister-in-law, Vanessa Plisko. A number of nieces and nephews are also among her survivors.

Peggy was not only a beloved family member but also a friend to many. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of those around her, leaving a lasting impact on her community.

Private services will be arranged for family and close friends to honor Peggy’s memory. As those who knew her gather to reflect on her life, they will undoubtedly remember the love and joy she brought into their lives. Her legacy will continue through the family she cherished so deeply.
