Community Mourns the Loss of Entrepreneur Rachel Hagedorn

Rachel Anne Hagedorn, a prominent entrepreneur and beloved family matriarch, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on December 18, 1932, in Paden City, she was the daughter of the late Dougall and Edith Sims Martin. Hagedorn was well-known in the Morgantown business community as one of the founders of Hagedorn’s LP Gas Service, a company that has served the region since the 1960s.

Throughout her life, Rachel embodied a passion for the culinary arts. She was an avid baker and enjoyed collecting cookbooks, often finding joy in preparing meals for family and friends. Her love of shopping was evident as she delighted in selecting the perfect gifts for loved ones, a testament to her thoughtful and generous nature.

Family was the cornerstone of Rachel’s life. She is survived by her son, Randy Hagedorn, and his wife, Becky, along with their children: Kris, Matthew, and Holly. Her other son, Tim Hagedorn, and his wife, Pam, also carry on her legacy through their children: Tim, Jr., Luke Hagedorn, and Adrian Simms. Additionally, her daughter, Cathy Sue Hagedorn, is left to cherish fond memories with her children: Robbie, Emily, Tyler, Jonathan, Christopher, and Michael Lazzell. Rachel also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren who will remember her warmth and wisdom.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Roy “Bill” Hagedorn, and several siblings, including Lee Martin, Betty Castle, Keith Martin, Norma Jean Brass, and Dougall C. Martin, Jr.
