Roland E. Bray, a cherished musician and community figure, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 75. His legacy is marked by a dedication to music and faith that impacted many lives in his local community and beyond. Bray is survived by his beloved wife, Sallie A. Bray, along with children and grandchildren from previous marriages.
Early Life and Musical Journey
Born on August 11, 1950, in Lebanon, Indiana, Bray committed himself to a life of faith from a young age. His passion for music flourished during the Jesus Revolution of the early 1970s when he became a member of the Wildwoods Gospel Group. Bray’s musical journey continued as he formed a Christian rock band named Liberated in Indiana. After relocating to Kansas City, he launched his last music ministry, Bearing Armor, alongside his wife.
Bray’s ministry extended to various outreach endeavors, including performances at prisons, festivals, and churches, where he shared messages of hope and faith. He was known for posting a Bible verse each morning on his Facebook page, further spreading his message of love and spirituality.
Community Impact and Personal Life
In October 2019, Bray and his wife moved to Kilgore, Texas, where they continued their mission of faith. Known for his gentle and selfless nature, Bray was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had a profound love for his family, including his children, Sandi and Josh (Tiffany), and his two grandchildren, Layla and Clay.
Outside of his musical pursuits, he enjoyed riding his Harley and was a fan of car and truck shows. Bray’s family and friends remember him as a generous man whose kindness touched many lives.
Bray is preceded in death by his brothers, John, Roy, and Carl, along with his parents, Charles Bray and Cathern Viles. His passing has left a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 13, 2025, at Go Forth Baptist Church, located at 3800 E. Go Forth Road, Kilgore, Texas. The service is scheduled for 11:00 AM, followed by a lunch for attendees. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Go Forth Baptist Church Building Fund or the American Heart Association.
