Connecticut Woman Claims Historic $500,000 Powerball Prize

A Meriden resident has made history as the first person in Connecticut to win a $500,000 prize through the Powerball Double Play option. The announcement was made by the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, marking a significant milestone for the state.

The winner, who purchased her ticket at H&H Mart on Broad Street, expressed her astonishment at the win. “This is my first time playing CT Lottery,” she said. “I’m still in disbelief.” The woman recounted how she had never played Powerball before and received assistance from the clerks at the store. “He asked if I wanted an add-on, and I asked what he recommended. He said Double Play, so I bought the add-on.”

In the Double Play drawing, she successfully matched all five black balls: 47, 17, 19, 53, and 61. This achievement secured her the substantial prize of $500,000. Had she also matched the Double Play Powerball number, she could have won a top cash prize of $10 million.

Plans for the Prize Money

According to the Connecticut Lottery Corporation, the winner intends to use her newfound wealth to pay off her mortgage. Additionally, she plans to celebrate her daughter’s upcoming wedding, a joyous occasion that will be further enhanced by this unexpected financial windfall.

As the excitement surrounding the victory unfolds, the Connecticut Lottery continues to emphasize the impact of such wins on local communities. This historic win not only brings personal joy to the winner but also highlights the potential rewards of participating in state lottery games.

With the Powerball Double Play option gaining traction, this win may inspire more residents to try their luck, potentially leading to further notable wins in the future.
