EPISD Interim Superintendent Celebrates Student Successes and Initiatives

Interim Superintendent Martha Aguirre of the El Paso Independent School District (EPISD) recently highlighted significant student achievements and ongoing initiatives as the district enters a crucial phase in its search for a new superintendent. With the festive fall celebrations winding down, Aguirre’s message underscored the vibrant activity within EPISD, emphasizing community engagement and the importance of stakeholder feedback in shaping the future leadership of the district.

In her address, Aguirre acknowledged the contributions of community members, stating, “Your feedback is helping the Board of Trustees define the leadership qualities in the next superintendent.” The district has established an online portal for community input, which will remain open until November 2, reinforcing EPISD’s commitment to inclusive decision-making.

Celebrating Athletic and Personal Achievements

Aguirre took the opportunity to spotlight the athletic talents within the district, recognizing twelve EPISD athletes for their participation in the UIL Cross Country State Championships held in Round Rock, Texas. “We want to wish luck to the 12 athletes who will represent EPISD at Round Rock this weekend,” she stated. Schools including Austin, El Paso, Coronado, and Franklin had competitors in this prestigious event, showcasing the district’s dedication to fostering athletic excellence.

Among the highlighted achievements, Jesus Jasso, a senior from Burges High School, received special recognition for his determination in overcoming hearing loss. Jasso is set to represent the United States at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo. Aguirre described him as a shining example of courage and Mustang pride, reflecting the broader narrative of resilience that resonates throughout the EPISD community.

Hiring Initiatives for Special Education

In addition to celebrating student accomplishments, Aguirre announced a hiring initiative aimed at bolstering the Special Education Department. A job fair is scheduled for November 6, from 15:00 to 18:00, at the Professional Development Center located at 6500 Boeing Drive. The district is actively seeking dedicated educators who are passionate about supporting students with diverse learning needs, emphasizing the priority EPISD places on inclusive education.

As the search for a new superintendent continues, EPISD remains focused on fostering a supportive environment for both students and staff, demonstrating a commitment to excellence in education and community engagement.
