Girl Scouts Kick Off Cookie Sales with Sweet New Flavors

The annual Girl Scout cookie sales begin this weekend, coinciding with the arrival of a significant shipment of cookies at the Kauai Veterans Center. On February 19, recognized as National Chocolate Mint Day by the National Confectioners Association, the popular Thin Mints were included in a delivery that featured a total of 33,642 cartons of cookies. This shipment, facilitated by Royal Hawaiian Movers, represents a 20 percent increase compared to last year’s allocation.

Marissa Dennis, the Girl Scouts of Hawaii Kauai Island manager, highlighted the excitement surrounding the event. “We have more cookies to sell, and more troops to help sell,” she stated, noting that 18 troops, particularly in the Hanalei area, are actively participating in the sales. Adult volunteers played a crucial role in organizing the shipment, ensuring that young sellers could pick up their orders after school.

Cookie Lineup and Sales Information

The recent shipment marks Kauai’s allocation for the 2026 cookie season. Once the cookies are sold out, customers will need to wait until next year for more, with some flavors potentially being discontinued. “We try to do Girl Scout Cookies in two months,” Dennis explained, contrasting Kauai’s sales timeframe with other regions where cookie sales can last nearly the entire year.

This year, Thin Mints continue to dominate, comprising 27 percent of the total shipment. Volunteers noted the popularity of chocolate mint flavors during this time of year, with even brands like Oreo launching mint-flavored products in February. The weekend marks the beginning of booth sales, where cookie enthusiasts can find their favorites, including the new flavor, Exploremores, inspired by rocky road ice cream.

The annual lineup also features beloved classics such as Samoas, Tagalongs, Do-si-dos, and Trefoils. To help shoppers locate booth sales, the Girl Scouts of Hawaii Cookie Finder is available for both in-person and online purchases.

Booth Sales Locations and Community Impact

For those eager to buy cookies this weekend, booth sales will occur at various locations in Lihue. On Friday through Sunday, customers can visit the Petco store and Safeway in the Hokulei Shopping Village from 16:00 to 21:00. Additionally, Ha Coffee along Rice Street will offer cookies on Saturday from 09:00 to 12:00, while Walmart will participate in cookie sales on both Saturday and Sunday.

All proceeds from the cookie sales remain within Hawaii, benefiting over 196 troops across the state. Girl Scouts earn rewards based on the number of cookie packages they sell and utilize the funds for travel, camps, and various service projects. Troops have the autonomy to decide how to allocate their earnings, while the local council ensures that these proceeds contribute to enriching experiences for Girl Scouts throughout Hawaii.

As the cookie season kicks off, communities come together to support young entrepreneurs and enjoy the sweet treats that have become a cherished tradition.
