LEGO has announced significant developments for 2026, unveiling two highly anticipated product lines. The first, the LEGO SMART Play system, will officially launch on March 1, 2026. This innovative system represents one of the most substantial evolutions for LEGO since the introduction of the Minifigure in 1978. The announcement was made during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) earlier this month, highlighting LEGO’s commitment to merging traditional play with modern technology.
The LEGO SMART Play system features three new components: SMART Bricks, SMART Tags, and SMART Minifigures. These elements interact in real time with users, enhancing the play experience by adding lights and sound to the iconic building sets. For instance, players can expect a TIE Fighter to emit acceleration noises and light up as they engage with it, fostering a new level of creative storytelling.
Introducing LEGO Pokémon Sets
In addition to the SMART Play system, LEGO is set to release its first-ever line of Pokémon sets on February 27, 2026. This collection includes three new sets that celebrate some of the most beloved Pokémon characters.
Among these is the LEGO Pokémon Eevee, a 587-piece buildable figure designed for adult fans. This set allows for various display options, featuring a poseable head, ears, legs, and tail, making it a charming addition for collectors. The second set, LEGO Pokémon Pikachu and Poké Ball, is more expansive, comprising 2,050 pieces. It features a dynamic, posable Pikachu leaping from a Poké Ball, complete with a themed stand that showcases Pikachu’s Pokédex number “25.”
The standout offering is the LEGO Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise set, which boasts an impressive 6,838 pieces. This collectible set brings the original Kanto starter final evolutions to life with high levels of detail and articulation. Each Pokémon figure can be displayed individually or collectively on a base that represents their natural biomes, making it a perfect centerpiece for any fan.
Details on the SMART Play LEGO Star Wars Line
The LEGO SMART Play system also includes several sets from the popular LEGO Star Wars franchise. One notable example is the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Luke’s Red Five X-Wing, a 584-piece set that combines traditional building with interactive features. This set incorporates lights, motion-activated sounds, and other dynamic effects. It includes a buildable X-Wing fighter and interactive components like an Imperial turret and SMART Minifigures of Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia.
Another exciting addition is the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Throne Room Duel & A-Wing. This 962-piece set allows fans to recreate the climactic lightsaber duel between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. It comes equipped with SMART features, including two SMART Bricks that provide sound and light responses, adding an immersive layer to the play experience.
Lastly, the LEGO Star Wars SMART Play: Darth Vader’s TIE Fighter completes the trio, offering 473 pieces that include a SMART Brick and minifigure of Darth Vader. This set allows users to pilot the TIE Fighter with motion-activated sounds and lights, enhancing the interactive element of play.
All of the aforementioned sets are currently available for preorder, indicating a strong start to 2026 for LEGO enthusiasts. With these new offerings, LEGO aims to continue its legacy of innovation while appealing to both longtime fans and new collectors.
