PCM Girls’ Wrestling Team Shows Strength at Woodward-Granger Duals

The PCM girls wrestling team displayed notable resilience during the dual tournament held at Woodward-Granger on December 1, 2023. The Mustangs secured victories against North Polk and Clarke but faced defeats at the hands of host Woodward-Granger and Dallas Center-Grimes. Overall, the team managed a split in their four duals, demonstrating both individual talent and collective determination.

In their match against Clarke, the Mustangs triumphed with a score of 42-23. Although they were 2-3 in contested matches, the team capitalized on five forfeits and noted three double forfeits. Key contributions came from Hadley Millang and Addison Fry, who achieved wins by fall at the 135 and 115 pound weight classes, respectively. Forfeits were claimed by Ryan DeVore (110), Courtney Cole (120), Holly Wood (140), Macie Kain (145), and Emma Beyer (170), further bolstering the Mustangs’ performance.

The Mustangs edged out North Polk based on criteria after earning six forfeit wins. Millang recorded a remarkable pin in just 11 seconds, although the team finished with a 1-3 record in contested matches. Forfeits were taken by Wood, Kain, Carly Wilkerson (155), Beyer, Lily Birkenholtz (190), and Emilyn Davis (235).

In their dual against Woodward-Granger, the PCM team faced a challenging match, ultimately falling 48-28. The host team outperformed the Mustangs with a 5-2 record in contested matches. Wilkerson demonstrated her prowess with a pin in just 17 seconds, while Beyer secured a significant 18-7 major decision victory at 170 pounds. Both teams claimed three forfeits, with PCM’s victories coming from Birkenholtz, DeVore, and Fry.

The Mustangs suffered a 60-18 loss to Dallas Center-Grimes, where Millang was the standout performer, winning by fall in the first period. Despite the team’s struggles, Beyer and Cole also took forfeits, leading to a 1-7 record in contested matches and a 2-3 tally in forfeits.

By the end of the tournament, Beyer finished with a perfect 4-0 record, earning three wins by forfeit, while Millang concluded with a commendable 3-1 record, including three pins. Several other wrestlers, including Wood, Kain, Wilkerson, Birkenholtz, DeVore, Fry, and Cole, each recorded a balanced 2-2 performance.

The PCM Mustangs’ efforts at the Woodward-Granger dual tournament not only showcased their skill but also highlighted the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define the team. As they continue to compete, their focus will be on refining their techniques and building on their successes.
