Pembroke, NH – Ruth E. Martin, a beloved member of the Pembroke community, passed away on **December 5, 2025**, at the age of **75**, surrounded by family. Her life was marked by dedication to her family and a pioneering spirit in her professional career.
Born on **March 7, 1950**, in Nashua, Ruth was the daughter of the late **Russell** and **Martha (Welch)** Richardson. She received her education in the Loudon schools, where she laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work and community involvement.
A Trailblazer in the Postal Service
Ruth’s professional journey began at the **Pittsfield Shoe Factory**, but she is best remembered for her groundbreaking role with the **United States Postal Service**. In **1970**, she became the first female letter carrier in **Concord**, earning the affectionate nickname “Ruthie” from the residents she served. Over her more than **30 years** with the Postal Service, she became a familiar and cherished figure in the community.
Outside of her career, Ruth enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including sewing, quilting, and crafting. She also relished the peacefulness of fishing, activities that brought her joy and relaxation.
A Legacy of Family and Community
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, **Raymond P. Martin**, as well as grandsons **Aybel** and **Brian Martin**, and two brothers, **Ernest** and **David Richardson**. She leaves behind a large family, including her children: **Anthony B. Palisi** and fiancée **Jennifer Long**, **Raymond Martin II** and wife **Laurabeth Wallace-Martin**, **Russell Martin** and wife **Kassi Martin**, **Elisha M. Dupuis** and husband **Matthew Dupuis**, and **Scott Martin** and wife **Kim**, along with **Tony Martin** and wife **Becca**. Ruth’s legacy also includes **fifteen grandchildren**, **three great-grandchildren**, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Family and friends will have the opportunity to pay their respects during calling hours on **December 10, 2025**, from **4 PM to 6 PM** at the **Roan Family Funeral Home**, located at **167 Main Street, Pembroke**. A graveside service is planned for the spring at **Evergreen Cemetery** in Pembroke.
