San Diego County Experiences Unseasonably Warm Weather This Week

Despite Punxsutawney Phil‘s prediction of six more weeks of winter, San Diego County is set to experience unseasonably warm weather this week. From Tuesday through Thursday, residents can expect high temperatures significantly above seasonal averages, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

Warm Temperatures and Santa Ana Winds

On Tuesday, temperatures along the coast are anticipated to reach between 71°F and 76°F. Inland areas may see highs of 77°F to 82°F, while the western valleys could experience temperatures from 80°F to 84°F. The foothills are expected to range from 76°F to 81°F, with mountain areas cooling down to between 64°F and 74°F. The deserts may reach an even warmer 81°F to 85°F.

Coastal communities could face patchy dense fog early Tuesday morning. However, as offshore winds develop on Wednesday, the fog is likely to dissipate. The NWS has also issued forecasts for strengthening Santa Ana winds from Wednesday into Thursday. Gusts may exceed 50 mph in certain mountain passes, although they are expected to remain below advisory levels.

Potential Cool Down with Rain on the Horizon

The warm spell is expected to cool down by Friday as onshore flow returns. A low-pressure system is on track to move into the area, bringing a chance of showers by Friday afternoon. There is even a slight possibility of thunderstorms accompanying these showers. Depending on the storm’s trajectory, rain could persist into Saturday.

Forecasters are also monitoring the potential for cooler and wetter weather early next week as additional systems approach the region. Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions as forecasts continue to develop.
