Selena Gomez Celebrates Natural Beauty with Makeup-Free Selfie

Selena Gomez shared a makeup-free selfie on Instagram, showcasing her natural beauty and casual demeanor. The post, made on January 16, 2024, features the Only Murders in the Building star smiling with her hand resting on her forehead, capturing a moment of authenticity that resonates with her followers.

The founder of Rare Beauty has been candid about her journey toward self-acceptance, particularly regarding the pressures of being in the public eye from a young age. In an interview with Glamour UK in December 2022, Gomez reflected on the challenges of feeling comfortable with her appearance amidst constant scrutiny. She stated, “Being in the public eye from such an early age certainly comes with a lot of pressure. It’s hard to feel comfortable when you feel like everyone is watching, judging and commenting on the way you look.”

Gomez launched Rare Beauty in September 2020 with a mission to challenge unrealistic beauty standards. She believes her brand can empower individuals to embrace their uniqueness rather than compare themselves to others. “I think Rare Beauty can be more than a beauty brand — it can make an impact,” she explained. “I want us all to stop comparing ourselves to each other and just start embracing our own uniqueness.”

In a previous interview with the same publication in February 2022, Gomez discussed her ongoing struggle with self-image. She emphasized that it took time for her to appreciate her individuality as a source of beauty. “It took me a long time to realize that I only wanted to be myself – that what made me unique was also what made me beautiful,” she shared.

The singer has also addressed the emotional toll of body shaming. During a March 2025 appearance on the podcast “On Purpose with Jay Shetty,” Gomez criticized strangers for making hurtful comments about her weight. “My weight’s a big issue. Everyone just has something to say and it’s really making me sad,” she stated. Gomez candidly acknowledged that such remarks have made her feel somewhat bitter over the years but asserted that she prioritizes her health above societal expectations.

“My medications are important, and I believe that they’re what helps me,” she said, referring to her lupus condition, which often causes weight fluctuations. Gomez reiterated her commitment to self-care, stating, “I would rather be healthy and take care of myself. Not a model, never will be. I think they’re awesome, mind you. I’m just definitely not that.”

Despite her efforts to remain positive, Gomez admitted that she occasionally succumbs to reading negative comments on social media. “I’m human and sometimes I read things,” she noted. “But I do, most of the time, ignore everything. I don’t have anything on my phone at that moment. So, there are ways to combat it.”

Gomez’s openness about her self-confidence journey continues to inspire many, as she advocates for authenticity and self-acceptance in a world often dominated by unrealistic beauty ideals. Her latest selfie serves as a reminder of her commitment to embracing her natural self and encouraging others to do the same.
