The winners of the third annual “Name a Snowplow” contest in Washington County have been officially announced by the county’s Department of Public Works. This year, over 2,600 residents participated in the event, casting their votes for creative names to adorn the community’s snow-clearing vehicles.
The top two vote-getters were Duck Duck Orange Truck, which received 873 votes, and Blizzard of Oz, with 795 votes. According to Brian Kaufenberg, a spokesperson for the county, “Blizzard of Oz” will primarily operate in the northern part of the county, while “Duck Duck Orange Truck” will be stationed in the southern area.
The contest saw an impressive array of submissions, with more than 1,400 names proposed by the public. County officials narrowed these down to a list of ten finalists, which included other creative options such as Kirill the Chill, Slick Seven, Life of a Snowgirl, Plowasaurus Rex, Chuck the Plow Truck, K Pop Blizzard Hunter, and Claire D. Way.
The initiative not only engages the community but also adds a touch of fun to the often challenging winter season. The naming contest aims to foster local pride and public interest in the services provided by the Department of Public Works.
As winter approaches, the newly named snowplows will play a vital role in maintaining road safety and accessibility, showcasing the community’s creativity and spirit.
