Kendall County Political Activist Mike Luckey Passes Away at 68

Mike Luckey, a prominent figure in Kendall County’s political scene for over two decades, passed away at his home on Saturday. He was 68 years old. Luckey had recently announced his candidacy for the position of Kendall County Judge, a role currently held by Judge Shane Stolarczyk, on October 30, 2023.

Luckey’s influence extended beyond his candidacy; he was known for his behind-the-scenes efforts in supporting candidates aligned with his views on property rights and government limitations. Friends and colleagues described him on social media as “a devoted husband, stepfather, grandfather, and passionate advocate for Kendall County.”

Born in Enid, Oklahoma, and raised in San Antonio, Luckey dedicated his career to the Southwest Research Institute, where he worked as a principal engineering technologist until his retirement in 2016. He and his late wife, Janelle Luckey, lived on a small farm north of Boerne, Texas.

In his campaign announcement published in the Boerne Star on November 2, 2023, Luckey outlined his priorities, which included protecting property rights, defending constitutional freedoms, and ensuring that county offices such as the Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office have adequate resources to maintain community safety. He was recognized as a staunch supporter of constitutional rights, local law enforcement, and limited government.

Many expressed their condolences following Luckey’s passing, including Michael Ethridge, owner of Oakridge Media and publisher of The Kendall Gentleman. Ethridge shared his memories of Luckey on social media, recalling how they first met when he entered local politics during high school. “We sat through countless Boerne City Council meetings together, and over the years we both turned our focus to the Kendall County stage,” he said.

Ethridge characterized Luckey as “a fierce defender of property rights and a firm believer in the constitutional limits of government.” He described him as “a conservative’s conservative,” who dedicated himself to holding government accountable, electing principled leaders, and advocating for the rights of individuals against bureaucratic overreach.

Details regarding memorial services for Mike Luckey will be announced as they become available. His legacy and contributions to Kendall County are expected to resonate among those who knew him and the community he served.
