Dan Ericson, a cherished resident of the South Bay, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by family and friends, he left behind a legacy of love, mentorship, and community spirit.
Born on October 26, 1948, Dan spent his formative years in Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach, raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson. His athletic talents shone during his time at Aviation High School, where he not only excelled in baseball and basketball but also earned the title of Homecoming King. Following his high school years, he attended El Camino College and later transferred to San Diego State University, where he was recruited to play volleyball.
Dan’s commitment to service was evident during his tenure as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. After a brief stint in the aerospace industry, he discovered his passion for real estate. Over the decades, Dan built a successful business in the South Bay, earning respect for his expertise as well as his integrity. He dedicated much of his time to mentoring young realtors, imparting the values of honesty and heart in business.
In 1980, Dan married Cetha Walkington at Neighborhood Church, and together they nurtured a family rooted in love and community. Dan was a devoted father to their two children, Sten and Kirstin, a loving father-in-law to Katrin, and a proud grandfather to Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise.
Known for his kindness and gentle nature, Dan had a playful sense of humor that delighted those around him. His love for wordplay and quick wit was often accompanied by his trademark smile. Throughout his life, he retained an easygoing, ocean-inspired spirit, reflected in his passion for surfing, fishing, and sailing.
Dan was a long-standing parishioner of American Martyrs Church, where he fostered meaningful connections within the community. His passing marks the reunion with his beloved wife, Cetha, who predeceased him.
A funeral Mass and celebration of life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 a.m.. Prior to the Mass, a paddle out is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach, welcoming all to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, honoring Dan’s commitment to helping others.
Dan Ericson’s legacy will endure in the hearts of those he touched, as a mentor, friend, and beloved member of the South Bay community.
