Kathleen Ann Giacalone, a cherished educator and devoted family member, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on April 24, 1937, in San Pedro, California, to Vincent and Antoinette Vitalich. Kathleen’s life was marked by her dedication to teaching and her love for family, which she cherished deeply throughout her years.
A Life Dedicated to Education and Family
Kathleen spent an impressive 39 years as an elementary school teacher, inspiring countless children in her community. Her passion for education left a lasting impact on her students and their families. After retiring, she found joy in traveling, exploring new places, and creating lasting memories with her loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Rosario (Jack) Giacalone, and their two children: daughter ToniLynn Meek and son Paul Giacalone. Kathleen also leaves behind four beloved grandchildren: Tommy, Anthony, Jacquelyn, and Gianna, as well as many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
Honoring a Legacy of Kindness
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations in Kathleen’s name to several organizations that she held dear, including Shriners Children’s, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Disabled American Veterans, and the San Pedro Peninsula Cancer Guild. These contributions reflect her compassionate spirit and commitment to helping others.
A Funeral Mass will be held to celebrate Kathleen’s life on December 2, 2025, at Mary Star of the Sea Church, starting at 10:30 a.m. Friends and family are encouraged to attend and share their memories of this remarkable woman.
