Chesapeake High School’s wrestling team secured their third consecutive title at the Class 3A state championships, triumphing over South River High School in a decisive match held on February 14, 2026. The championship took place at North Point High School, where Chesapeake showcased their dominance in a series of thrilling bouts.
Rex Graves led the charge for Chesapeake with a notable victory over South River’s Nicco Seppi in the 150-pound weight class. Graves executed a powerful technique, placing Seppi on his back and earning crucial points for his team. This victory was pivotal in setting the tone for Chesapeake’s overall performance throughout the competition.
The match featured a variety of intense encounters. In the 120-pound weight bout, South River’s William Gavez attempted to secure a pin against Chesapeake’s Brayden Haney, but Haney’s resilience kept the match competitive. Similarly, Evan Paximadas from South River celebrated a victory against Chesapeake’s Dean Michael in the 190-pound bout, adding to the excitement of the event.
Another standout performance came from Chesapeake’s Owen Collins, who successfully pinned South River’s Logan Fulda in the 165-pound category. This match further solidified Chesapeake’s lead, showcasing the depth and skill of their wrestlers.
