Fillies Suffer Defeat to Georgia Gwinnett, 93-53 in Road Game

The ABAC women’s basketball team faced a challenging match on November 18, 2025, falling to the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies with a score of 93-53. This defeat marks a difficult start for the Fillies, who now hold a record of 1-3 for the season.

The game commenced with a brief lead for the Fillies, as Taylor Frazier opened the scoring with a layup. However, momentum quickly shifted in favor of the Grizzlies, who launched a decisive 14-3 run that put them ahead early. By the end of the first quarter, the Fillies found themselves trailing 24-13, struggling to keep pace with their opponents.

Georgia Gwinnett maintained their dominance, beginning the second quarter with another significant run, outscoring the Fillies 15-3 during the first half of the frame. As the first half concluded, the Grizzlies extended their lead to a commanding 45-23.

Despite a brief resurgence in the third quarter, where the Fillies managed a 7-3 run to cut the deficit to 18 points, the Grizzlies quickly reasserted their control. Georgia Gwinnett outscored ABAC 17-7 for the remainder of the third quarter, establishing a comfortable lead that expanded to as much as 46 points in the final quarter.

The Fillies struggled offensively, shooting a dismal 19-64 from the field, including only 9-29 from three-point range. In contrast, the Grizzlies showcased their shooting prowess, finishing with 34-79 from the floor and sinking 21 of their 47 three-point attempts.

Despite the loss, there were standout performances for the Fillies. Shakiria Chaney led the team in scoring with 12 points, contributing eight rebounds and three steals. Additionally, Dailey Jefferson recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, highlighting her effectiveness on the court.

Looking ahead, the Fillies will travel to Thomasville to face the Thomas University Night Hawks on November 22, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. This matchup will serve as their conference opener, and the team will aim to bounce back from this setback as they continue their season.
