The San Francisco Giants have extended non-roster invitations to 19 players for the upcoming spring training, set to take place in Scottsdale, Arizona. This announcement, made on Wednesday, includes a mix of emerging prospects and seasoned veterans, one of whom is former All-Star pitcher Michael Fulmer. Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report for duty on February 11, 2025, while position players will follow on February 16, 2025. Those participating in the World Baseball Classic, including ace Logan Webb, can report starting on Monday.
Fulmer, now 32, made a significant impact in 2016 when he was named the American League Rookie of the Year with the Detroit Tigers. He became an All-Star in the following season and transitioned to the role of closer in 2021, where he recorded 14 saves. Over the past three seasons, he has consistently appeared in at least 50 games each year. However, he missed the entirety of 2024 due to UCL revision surgery. Last season, Fulmer played for four different organizations — the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Royals, and Seattle Mariners — but only made three major league appearances. He concluded the season with the Mariners’ Triple-A affiliate, boasting a remarkable 0.75 ERA alongside 18 strikeouts in 12 innings.
The Giants also welcome several players with major league experience, including left-hander Nick Margevicius and right-handers Gregory Santos and Caleb Kilian.
Promising Prospects Join the Roster
Among the notable prospects invited to spring training are corner infielder Park Harber, outfielder Bo Davidson, and Will Bednar, a first-round draft pick in 2021. Harber, 24, is a particularly intriguing addition. Despite being undrafted out of college, he has made a name for himself, hitting .312 with 14 home runs in 102 minor league games after signing with the New York Yankees as a free agent in 2024. The Giants acquired him last summer as part of the trade involving Camilo Doval. Harber shone in the Arizona Fall League, where he posted a .383 batting average and led the league with a 1.196 OPS, although he has yet to compete above High-A level. He faces competition for positions at the major league level, particularly first base and third base.
Davidson, 23, split last season between High-A Eugene and Double-A Richmond, achieving a combined batting average of .281 and hitting 18 home runs in his first full season after signing as an undrafted free agent in 2023. While he did strike out 119 times in 449 at-bats, he remains one of the organization’s top outfield prospects. Bednar, now 25, has dealt with back injuries that have hindered his progress but still managed to appear in a career-high 38 games last season, including two at Triple-A Sacramento, with a 4.97 ERA over 50.2 innings.
Another notable invitee is Jake Holton, a slugging first baseman from San Jose who attended Archbishop Mitty High School and Los Gatos High School. He was a 10th-round pick by the Tigers in 2019 and hit 19 home runs last season at Double-A before signing as a minor league free agent during the offseason.
