Greely Girls Basketball Secures Fifth Straight Win in Thrilling Match

The Greely High School girls basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with a narrow victory over York High School, winning 40-38 in a Class B South matchup held on March 16, 2024, in Cumberland. Sophia Littel shone in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of her total 14 points, helping Greely improve its season record to 5-1. Avery Bush also contributed with 10 points, showcasing the team’s resilience as they have triumphed in three of their last five games by just two points.

The game remained tightly contested throughout, with York (3-3) holding a slim 23-22 lead entering the final quarter. Nya Avery was a standout for York, finishing with 15 points, while Maddigan Fitzgerald added 13 points to the effort.

In other girls basketball action, Old Orchard Beach secured a 26-23 victory over Mountain Valley. Corinne Androkitis led the Seagulls (4-2) with 10 points, while Reagan Partridge and Ryder Blake each contributed seven points. Bella Dupuis was the top scorer for Mountain Valley with 9 points.

Boys basketball saw Mountain Valley achieve a decisive 75-51 win against Old Orchard Beach in Rumford. Blake Small dominated the scoreboard with 30 points, while Dylan Theriault and Logan Crews supported the effort with 13 and 10 points, respectively. For Old Orchard Beach, Trot Moody led with 17 points.

Freeport also celebrated a successful outing, defeating Fryeburg Academy 55-31. Drew Pound scored 14 points, and Wyatt Lavallee made a significant impact with 11 of his 13 points coming in the second half. The Falcons (1-4) pulled away in the third quarter, outscoring the Raiders (0-6) 24-9. Robbie Hazlewood was Fryeburg’s top scorer with 12 points.

In boys hockey, Lewiston Co-op triumphed over Windham Co-op with a 5-0 scoreline. Aizyk Laliberte was the star of the match, recording a hat trick along with one assist for Lewiston/Mt. Ararat/Lisbon/Morse (3-2). Anthony Kavanaugh and Landon Desjardins also contributed to the score, while goalie Kai Stockford achieved a shutout with 24 saves.

The girls hockey match between Gorham Co-op and Falmouth/Scarborough ended with Gorham securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory. Lily Keene scored just 23 seconds into overtime, ensuring the win for Gorham/Bonny Eagle/Massabesic/Westbrook/Fryeburg (5-3). Hope Melevsky opened the scoring for Falmouth/Scarborough, who are now 1-4-2, but Maya Stanley equalized midway through the first period. Celina Doucette made 13 saves for Gorham, while Tessa Woodbury recorded 33 saves for Falmouth/Scarborough.
