Maxx Crosby’s Future with Raiders Remains Uncertain Amid Trade Rumors

Maxx Crosby, a standout pass-rusher for the Las Vegas Raiders, is at the center of speculation regarding his future with the team. Reports surfaced in early February claiming that Crosby expressed to minority owner Tom Brady his dissatisfaction with the team’s decision to limit his playtime due to a knee injury last season. This situation has fueled discussions about whether Crosby might request a trade.

Despite these speculations, Crosby reportedly does not intend to formally ask for a trade. According to ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, a team source indicated that while Crosby’s chances of returning to the Raiders are not strong, he values his relationship with owner Mark Davis. Fowler noted, “He probably wouldn’t garner a Micah Parsons-like trade package,” referring to the two first-round draft picks and a key player that Dallas received for their star linebacker last year.

The Raiders, who signed Crosby to a three-year, $106.5 million contract extension last offseason, would likely require a substantial return to part ways with the 28-year-old player. Reports suggest that they would only consider trading him if they receive two first-round picks along with a starting player.

Crosby has expressed a desire to win, particularly as he has participated in only one playoff game since being drafted by the Raiders in 2019. This raises questions about the team’s ability to compete for playoff spots, especially with rookie Fernando Mendoza projected as the starting quarterback. The expectations for a rookie to lead the team into the postseason add to the uncertainty surrounding Crosby’s future.

Some executives from other teams remain skeptical about the Raiders’ willingness to trade Crosby. One general manager remarked, “Why would you trade him? He’s a premier player at a premier position.” An executive from the National Football Conference (NFC) added, “I think the price is too high. I’m not sure they really want to move him at this point. But that could change.”

Before the recent season, Crosby often hinted at his commitment to being a one-club player, expressing a desire to retire with the Raiders. If he continues to maintain a positive relationship with the organization, it could lead to a situation where both the Raiders and Crosby see more value in his contributions on the field than in a potential trade.

As the offseason progresses, the dynamics surrounding Crosby’s status with the Raiders will continue to unfold. Both fans and analysts will be watching closely to see whether the star pass-rusher stays in Las Vegas or if the team decides to explore trade opportunities.
