Scarborough Boys Basketball Powers Past Portland with Long-Range Shooting

Scarborough High School’s boys basketball team showcased an impressive performance on Tuesday, defeating Portland 65-51 in a Class A South matchup. The Red Storm’s long-range shooting proved pivotal, as the team made a remarkable 16 three-pointers, including eight during a decisive third quarter that turned the game in their favor.

Leading the charge for Scarborough (5-2) was Carter Ryan, who scored 27 points, all from three-point range. His pivotal contributions included four three-pointers in the third quarter, which helped expand the team’s lead from a narrow 27-26 halftime advantage to a commanding 57-39 by the end of the period. Adam Fitzgerald also made a significant impact, contributing four three-pointers and 18 points overall, while Loic Ramazani added 12 points. For Portland (4-3), Benilson Lumani scored 11 points, and his teammate, Loic Ramazani, contributed 12 points.

Other Notable Games from Tuesday

In another notable matchup, Oxford Hills dominated Mt. Ararat with an 80-49 victory. Cam Pulkkinen led the Vikings (2-5) with an impressive 31 points, while Carson Stevens added 24. Daniel Beal was the top scorer for Mt. Ararat, finishing with 13 points.

Meanwhile, at Biddeford, the Tigers edged past Marshwood 54-49. Jackson Whitaker contributed 14 points, with 10 coming in a pivotal third quarter that saw Biddeford (1-6) execute a 19-10 scoring run. Leading the Tigers was Julius Searles with 21 points, while Robert Williams and Nick Ansara added 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Girls Hockey Highlights

In girls hockey, the Penobscot Pioneers achieved a narrow 4-3 victory over the Gorham co-op team. Ella Davis shone brightly, scoring a hat trick, while Abbie Derosier made 32 saves to secure the win for the Pioneers (4-5). Isabelle Brideau also contributed with a goal and two assists. For the Gorham co-op (5-4), scoring came from Carlin Galligan, Azalea Grant, and Maya Stanley.

In another matchup, the Biddeford co-op triumphed over the York co-op with a decisive score of 9-2. Gabryella Phelan and Sophia Auger each scored twice, contributing to the team’s success. The co-op team, which includes players from Thornton Academy, Kennebunk, and Wells, improved their record to 6-4.
