UPDATE: Arlington is set to transform its streets with a substantial investment of over $19 million in road maintenance projects, just announced by city officials. The initiative aims to improve the conditions of at least 15 streets and repair 23 additional roadways, providing residents with smoother and safer travel.
The funding comes primarily from a voter-approved, quarter-cent Street Maintenance Sales Tax, reflecting the city’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure and extending the lifespan of its roads. Key projects include the Mill & Overlay program, Concrete Panel Replacement Program, and the Reclamation and Miscellaneous Concrete Program, all designed to address varying levels of road deterioration.
According to the Arlington Public Works, the Mill & Overlay program will begin this September and is expected to be completed by September 2026. This program targets streets with a mid-average Overall Condition Index (OCI) rating of 50 to 69.99, which are marked “yellow” and suitable for resurfacing. Notable streets included in this initiative are UTA Boulevard and its surrounding network.
The Concrete Panel Replacement Program commenced in July 2025 and focuses on “yellow” and “red” streets with poor concrete conditions. It involves replacing damaged panels to ensure road safety and longevity. Areas such as Road to Six Flags Street and West Sublett Road will benefit from these critical repairs.
Additionally, the Reclamation and Miscellaneous Concrete Program, which started in August 2025, aims to revitalize “red” streets, those scoring below 50 on the OCI scale. This technique includes pulverizing existing asphalt and reconstructing it with a stabilized base, targeting streets like Alaska Court and San Paulo Court.
This comprehensive approach to street maintenance not only enhances driving conditions but also reflects Arlington’s proactive measures to prioritize public safety and infrastructure resilience. The city’s annual pavement survey plays a crucial role in determining which streets require immediate attention based on their condition.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed as these projects unfold, significantly impacting daily commutes and overall city aesthetics. The Arlington Public Works emphasizes that smoother streets will lead to a more comfortable ride, enhancing the quality of life for all residents.
As these projects progress, residents can expect updates regarding specific timelines and potential road closures. The city remains committed to transparency and public engagement throughout the maintenance process.
With this ambitious plan in place, Arlington is taking significant steps to ensure its roads are safe, durable, and ready for the future. Stay tuned for more updates as this story develops.
