URGENT UPDATE: The Bay Area is set to experience another wave of rain as a new storm approaches, following a powerful atmospheric river that drenched the region with over 5 inches of rain in some areas. Residents are urged to prepare for significant weather changes starting this weekend.
The intense storm that swept through the Bay Area on Thursday has left behind a damp and cool Friday morning, but conditions are expected to shift as another system moves in. Dalton Behringer from the National Weather Service reported, “It’s kind of looking mostly dry for Friday,” but warned that Saturday will see a resurgence of rain across the region.
The heaviest rainfall during the previous storm occurred in the Santa Cruz Mountains, where Ben Lomond recorded a staggering 5.33 inches of rain. Areas in Sonoma County north of Santa Rosa were also heavily impacted, with over 4.5 inches falling. Downtown Oakland and San Francisco International Airport were not spared, measuring 1.5 inches each.
Residents should remain cautious, as intermittent showers are likely throughout Friday, with the potential for some sunny breaks. However, the calm is expected to be short-lived. The next significant storm system is projected to arrive by Sunday evening, bringing heavy rain and possible flooding.
Behringer added that this incoming system may combine moisture from the remnants of the previous storm with new low-pressure fronts from the northwest. “We anticipate that it’s going to remain an active one,” he stated, indicating that stormy conditions could persist into the following week.
As the Bay Area grapples with this ongoing wet weather pattern, residents are advised to stay updated on forecasts and prepare for rapidly changing conditions. The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as they develop.
