BREAKING: David N. Daniels, former Athletic Director and beloved baseball coach at the University of Connecticut Hartford Division, has passed away at the age of 86. He died peacefully on January 4, 2026, leaving a legacy of mentorship and passion for sports in Enfield and beyond.
Born on February 19, 1939, in Middletown, Daniels was a cherished figure in the sports community. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School, he earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and later a master’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University. He dedicated 35 years to coaching and shaping young athletes, retiring in 1998.
Daniels’ impact extended far beyond his professional life. Following his retirement, he volunteered for over 20 years with the Enfield Fish & Wildlife organization, sharing his love for the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he also officiated local softball leagues and was a member of the Catch Hollow Hunting and Fishing Club.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Jeanne Daniels, and their children: Tracey Stankiewicz, Scott Daniels, Tammy Arthurs, Heather Rounbehler, Stephen Clapp, and Tracey Bonanni. Daniels also leaves behind nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his sister, Diane Mahoney.
