URGENT UPDATE: Filomena Califano Piccirillo, an esteemed member of the Schenectady community, has passed away at the age of 85 on December 9, 2025. Known for her vibrant spirit and dedication to family, her death marks a poignant loss for many who cherished her.
Born in San Giovanni e Paolo, Italy, Filomena married her late husband, Guido Piccirillo, in 1963. The couple moved to Schenectady in 1965, where they raised three children and became integral members of the local community. Filomena was employed for many years at Union College and later at the dental office of Dr. DeLuke. She was a dedicated parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Filomena was not only a devoted mother to her children, but also a loving grandmother to seventeen grandchildren. Her family includes Nicola “Nick” Piccirillo, Lucia Ingriselli, and John Piccirillo, who all remember her for her passion for gardening, cooking, and nurturing her family.
Her legacy extends beyond her immediate family. She is remembered fondly by her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved cousin Aunt Elvira Sangiovanni and caregiver Marjorie Cummings. The loss of Filomena resonates deeply within her family and the wider community.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 14th, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the DeMarco Stone Funeral Home, located at 1605 Helderberg Ave, Rotterdam. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, December 15th, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, followed by entombment at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to organizations supporting Alzheimer’s research, reflecting Filomena’s battle with the disease. Contributions can be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association – Northeastern New York or Consumer Directed Choices.
