UPDATE: Boulder Opera Company has just launched its electrifying new season, captivating audiences with a fresh array of performances that celebrate the power of live opera. Operating since 2012, this nonprofit is committed to making opera accessible and engaging for the entire community, breaking down barriers for audiences of all ages.
This season kicked off with the highly anticipated Opera in the Park event at the Boulder Bandshell, an outdoor showcase of iconic opera highlights that drew in enthusiastic crowds. Families enjoyed the warmth and humor of Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love in November, and the excitement builds as the company prepares to present Strauss’s sumptuous Der Rosenkavalier in April 2024, a poignant exploration of love, time, and transformation.
Boulder Opera’s commitment to community outreach is significant. Hundreds of residents, particularly from underserved Latino and Hispanic communities, have had the opportunity to enjoy free concerts. Additionally, thousands of students from Title I schools have been introduced to opera through engaging educational programs. These initiatives aim to foster a new generation of opera lovers, creating lasting connections within the community.
As a nonprofit organization primarily funded by donations, Boulder Opera is launching an urgent fundraising campaign this year, with a goal of raising $12,000 in unrestricted funds. These funds will support artist pay, expand bilingual programming, and enhance community access for the upcoming 2026 season. Their message resonates clearly: it only takes a little to make a big impact.
This ongoing effort highlights the importance of community support in sustaining local artists and ensuring that these vibrant productions remain accessible to all. The community is encouraged to take part in Colorado Gives Day to support the Boulder Opera Company.
