URGENT UPDATE: A serious crash occurred on the Suncoast Parkway in Spring Hill, Florida, on Friday night, resulting in significant damage to a road ranger truck and injuries to the driver of a 2025 Volkswagen Atlas. The incident unfolded at approximately 7:25 p.m. near mile marker 46.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the road ranger was assisting a vehicle pulling a trailer with a flat tire when the collision happened. The ranger was moving slowly on the outside shoulder when the Volkswagen, traveling in the outside lane, veered off the road and struck the ranger’s truck. The truck had its emergency lights activated at the time of the crash, highlighting the urgency of the road ranger’s assistance.
Both vehicles sustained extensive damage, with reports indicating that airbags deployed in both the Volkswagen and the ranger’s truck. Fortunately, the road ranger was unharmed, but the driver of the Volkswagen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
In the aftermath, the FHP issued the driver a ticket for failure to move over, a crucial law designed to protect roadside workers and emergency responders.
This incident underscores the critical importance of road safety, especially when emergency vehicles are present. As more details emerge, drivers are reminded to stay vigilant and adhere to traffic laws, particularly concerning the move over law, which aims to protect those who assist others on the road.
