UPDATE: Doris Ann Peterson, aged 88, of Duluth, MN, has passed away on October 17, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. This loss has deeply impacted those who knew her, as she was a cherished mother, grandmother, and dedicated community member.
Born on December 27, 1936, in Ashland, WI, to Florence and Steven Hecimovich, Doris dedicated her life to family and education. She graduated from DePadua Catholic High School in 1956 and married Robert (Bob) Peterson on August 31, 1957. Together, they raised four sons in Duluth, where she became a beloved figure in the community.
Doris found immense joy in her role as a teacher’s aide at St. Michael’s Raggedy Ann Pre-school, where her patience and love for children shone brightly. Her commitment to nurturing young minds extended beyond the classroom, as she also volunteered at St. Michael’s Used A Bit store and contributed to church activities as a member of the funeral lunch ladies.
Family was the cornerstone of Doris’s life. She thrived during family gatherings, particularly during holidays and birthdays, relishing her time spent at her childhood home in Ashland. The annual Fourth of July picnics, complete with parades and laughter, created cherished memories with her brother, sister, children, and grandchildren.
Doris’s legacy of humor and wit remained with her throughout her final days. She is preceded in death by her loving son, Ricky, her husband, Bob, and her parents. She leaves behind her sons, Steve (Donna), Mike (Kris), and Craig (Lynn) Peterson, along with her sister Joanne Hecimovich, brother Lawrence (Donna) Hecimovich, and her adoring grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family is profoundly grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at Ecumen Lakeshore, who supported Doris in her final days. In accordance with Doris’s wishes, her family will hold a private service to celebrate her remarkable life.
