UPDATE: A tragic accident in Catawba County yesterday has resulted in the death of 68-year-old Uribe Enedino and left two others critically injured. The collision, which occurred at approximately 5:30 p.m. on 12th Avenue Drive, is being investigated by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash happened when Enedino’s Honda Civic reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign after he experienced a medical emergency shortly before the incident. His vehicle first collided with a parked car before crashing into a utility pole, just half a mile off Highway 321.
Emergency responders pronounced Enedino dead at the scene. His passengers, 21-year-old Jose Uribe and 28-year-old Rosa Uribe, were critically injured and transported to a local hospital for immediate medical attention. Reports indicate that Rosa was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
“The investigation is ongoing, and we are looking into the role of medical emergencies in traffic safety,” said a spokesperson from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
