FDNY Firefighter Patrick D. Brady Dies Responding to Brooklyn Fire

BREAKING: An FDNY firefighter tragically lost his life on October 7, 2023, while bravely responding to an “all-hands fire” in Brooklyn. Firefighter Patrick D. Brady, a dedicated member of the department for over 11 years, suffered a medical emergency while on the roof at 9407 Kings Highway near Brownsville, leading to cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders rushed him to Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, but he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. New York City Mayor Eric Adams expressed profound sorrow, stating, “Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love; there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening.”

In a statement, FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker conveyed the department’s heartache over Brady’s passing, marking him as the 1,163rd member of the FDNY to die in the line of duty. The grief is compounded by the legacy of service in Brady’s family; both his brothers, Jimmy and Brian, along with other relatives, proudly serve as firefighters.

Mayor Adams highlighted the familial commitment to public service, saying, “Firefighter Brady came from a family of firefighters — all dedicated to protecting the lives of their fellow New Yorkers.”

Brady joined the FDNY in 2014, and his dedication to duty exemplified the courage and resilience of the department. His death follows the loss of Paramedic Salih Abdur Rahman, who died on October 29, 2022, after completing a shift.

As the community mourns, officials and fellow firefighters are uniting to honor Brady’s sacrifice. Plans for memorial services and tributes are expected to be announced soon, and the FDNY encourages the public to support the family during this heartbreaking time.
