UPDATE: Forest Ridge Park in Raleigh has just announced a series of urgent wilderness navigation classes designed to empower outdoor enthusiasts with essential survival skills. Starting on January 15, these classes will equip participants aged 14 and up with the tools they need for safe exploration off the beaten path.
In response to the growing interest in outdoor adventures, the program will feature hands-on instruction covering vital map and compass skills, ensuring that attendees can confidently navigate through diverse terrains—whether thick forests or open deserts. The sessions will take place on select Tuesdays and Thursdays, with upcoming dates set for February 12, March 10, and April 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Participants are encouraged to bring only their enthusiasm, a water bottle, and appropriate hiking attire, as all necessary navigation equipment will be provided on-site. The cost for local residents is $25, while non-residents can join for $40. Registration is available through RecLink, and spots are expected to fill quickly.
As wilderness areas become increasingly popular for escapism and refuge, these classes represent a critical step towards ensuring safety and confidence in nature. According to a statement from Raleigh Parks and Recreation, “We will provide all necessary equipment,” reinforcing the commitment to accessible outdoor education.
This initiative not only enhances individual skills but also promotes a broader culture of safety and preparedness in outdoor activities. Don’t miss the chance to secure your spot in these essential classes—register now and prepare for your next adventure with confidence!
